The Cowboys are not expected to get back into trade talks for star pass rusher Maxx Crosby, a person with knowledge of the team’s thinking told The Dallas Morning News. On Tuesday night, the Baltimore Ravens rejected a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders for Crosby due to health issues for the Colleyville Heritage product.

The Ravens had agreed to give up two first-round picks to acquire the five-time Pro Bowler. Before that trade, the Cowboys offered one of their two first-round picks in the 2026 NFL draft and a 2027 second-round pick, but that wasn’t enough to entice the Raiders to move Crosby to the Cowboys.

The Cowboys instead offered a 2027 fourth-round pick to the Green Bay Packers for edge rusher Rashan Gary. That deal will become finalized on Wednesday, the first day of the NFL’s League Year.

Dallas has sought a pass rusher after trading Micah Parsons to the Packers for two first-round picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark just a week before the start of the 2025 season.

During the 2025 season, Dallas used one of those first-round picks to acquire defensive tackle Quinnen Williams in a trade with the New York Jets at the trade deadline.

With the Cowboys seeking to improve a defense that gave up a franchise record 511 points, finding an elite pass rusher was on their list of things to do this offseason.

The team is moving to a 3-4 base defense, so acquiring more outside linebackers to pair with talented defensive tackles such as Clark and Williams is part of the rebuilding effort for new defensive coordinator Christian Parker.

Dallas re-signed defensive end Sam Williams to add depth to the linebacker group that will move inside linebacker Marist Liufau. Gary will start at outside linebacker with Donovan Ezeiruaku, who is recovering from offseason hip surgery.
