Crews responded to the fire early Wednesday morning at a two-story apartment unit on Burleson Road.
AUSTIN, Texas — Three children are dead and several people are injured after a fire early Wednesday morning at a southeast Austin apartment complex.Â
According to the Austin Fire Department (AFD), crews received a call shortly after 12:50 a.m. about a fire at 2507 Burleson Rd., not far from East Oltorf Street.Â
Once on scene, responders said the fire was burning in a two-story apartment unit and that that several people were inside. Three people were also found with burns outside the complex.Â
AFD said one group of responders attempted to put out the fire while another searched the building. In an update at Wednesday morning, crews confirmed three children died in the fire. The victims have not been identified at this time.Â
Residents were evacuated early Wednesday morning and are not yet allowed to re-enter the apartment complex. Power and gas have also been cut from the building.Â
Responders said two adults were injured and taken to Dell Seton Medical Center, while one child was transported to San Antonio for further treatment.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.Â
The AFD said crews will remain on scene through at least 9 a.m. Wednesday.Â
