AUSTIN, Texas — A new approach to eye care is opening its doors in Austin. Santé Eyecare is blending preventative vision care with a boutique-style experience designed to help patients protect their eyesight while feeling relaxed and cared for.

“We focus a lot on preventative care here,” Kelso said. “We want to talk to you about things we see in your habits or your lifestyle that could affect your vision down the road and address them before they ever cause any issues.”
The space itself was designed to feel calm and welcoming, something Kelso says patients notice right away.
The practice offers a full range of services including glasses, contacts, and treatment for medical eye concerns such as infections or injuries. Kelso says the name of the practice reflects the experience she hopes patients will have.
“‘Santé’ is a French word that means health, but it’s also how people say cheers,” Kelso said. “So at Santé it really means ‘to your health.’”
Kelso says optometry allows her team to combine medical care with personal style.
“We wanted to create a really warm, inviting space so people can feel relaxed here,” Kelso said. “We take our time, we’re thorough, and we really focus on that preventative care.”
“Optometry is a really amazing field to be in because we get to blend fashion,” Kelso said. “A lot of times people are getting glasses for a new job, or contacts for sports, or for a special life moment, and we get to be a part of that.”
New innovations are also helping patients over 40 who may start noticing changes in their vision.
“There have been some drops that treat presbyopia, which is when you start needing reading glasses in your 40s,” Kelso said. “Some of those drops can let you go glasses-free for most of the day.”
Kelso also emphasizes the importance of early eye exams for children as screen time increases.

“When kids develop a prescription young, it can become much higher as they get older,” Kelso said. “When you catch it early, you can slow down that progression and keep their prescription smaller.”
