HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A 17-year-old is dead after police said he was showing off a gun to his friend when it went off.
The shooting happened at about 9:15 a.m. Wednesday on the 6000 block of Fondren. The Houston Police Department said the 17-year-old was playing with a gun, showing it off to an 18-year-old girl, when it accidentally went off, and he was shot.
Police said the family members heard the gunshot and rendered aid to him. He was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, HPD said.
Officers said they are also speaking with the 18-year-old girl to try to figure out what happened.
Additional details were not immediately released.
