AUSTIN, Texas – South by Southwest’s 40th year has officially begun, which means traffic and road closures across Austin.

If you’re planning to attend, it’s recommended to consider all other options, including walking or taking the free SXSW shuttle bus, before deciding to drive.

The city of Austin’s Transportation and Public Works Department has provided a map of expected road closures as part of their mobility guide for the conference. The interactive map shows road closures, MetroRail times and bicycle routes to plan your travel around Austin.

SXSW has provided a map to figure out where their free shuttle bus will run, which is a circulating route between most conference venues, with stops including the Zachary Scott Theatre, Alamo Lamar and The Paramount Theatre. This map containes a guide to those routes and when to use them.

Attendees are also encouraged to use Austin’s public transit, with bus passes available for $2.50 a day.  This map shows the routes and the frequency of the buses arriving

The official SXSW transportation guide also recommends rideshare options like Lyft and Uber. CapMetro Bikeshare, a city-wide bike rental service, along with rentable electric scooters like Lime and Bird are also recommended by the guide.
