A section of White Rock Lake Trail was closed again because of a trail-adjacent sinkhole near the spillway and San Rafael Drive that is estimated to be 20-40 feet deep.
The sinkhole emerged on Friday, and parts of the trail were closed during the weekend, according to a Dallas Observer article. After reopening, Dallas Park & Recreation announced on Monday, March 9 that the trail would be closed between Lawther Drive and the spillway.
“Please use caution when in the area and respect the closed sections,” reads Dallas Park & Recreation’s notice.
A screenshot of an email from Cam Loos, Dallas Park & Recreation assistant director of planning and facilities, addressing the sinkhole circulated on Facebook. The message speculated on the size of the hole and said that the cause has to do with an abandoned sewer line that needed to be backfilled.
Dallas Water Utilities is reportedly working on temporary repairs in the meantime before identifying a long-term solution, according to a CBS News article.
