The Houston Texans have made their offseason plans known for 2026. The team is all in on building and retaining the National Football League’s top defense.

The Texans have been active in signing plenty of defensive players to come back for another year. On Thursday we learned that the team added another difference maker at defensive line with defensive end Logan Hall.

Mike J. Asti of Yardbarker discussed what the move indicates about the team’s plans for 2026.

“Adding Hall furthers Texans general manager Nick Caserio’s clear emphasis on the defensive line this offseason. Caserio has also retained defensive end Danielle Hunter, defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins and Naquan Jones while bringing in former Chicago Bears defensive end Dominique Robinson.

And with questions surrounding quarterback C.J. Stroud after regressing in back-to-back seasons — he’s thrown 20 interceptions in the past two seasons combined, following just five in his rookie year — the Texans seem to be operating under the belief that defense wins championships and bolstering that side of the ball will increase the overall team’s chances at contending again.

Despite a solid 12-5 regular season and a dominating win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC wild-card round, the Texans still finished behind the rival Jacksonville Jaguars for the AFC South title and then were eliminated by the eventual conference champion New England Patriots in the divisional round.”

The Texans have indicated that they do not feel the best way to improve the team is through offensive additions. Stroud certainly struggled, but the Texans may actually be doing him a favor with their defensive focus.

Houston could see Stroud elevate the offense even without the biggest assortment of help. The defense will allow him to be in nearly every game presumably, with Stroud only needing to make the plays that swing the game. In a way, it allows him to be the hero that many quarterbacks want to be without having to score 40 points to win a game. Still, not everyone sees it that way.

Whether you agree with the process or not, Houston is buying all in on their process. We will be able to see if they can benefit from it moving forward.

What is clear is the decision making is based in substance. The Texans know that their defense is championship caliber if they keep them together. They will look to improve on their league-best season with another in 2026.
