I’ve said it once and I will say it again: Dogs. We don’t deserve them but man, do we NEED them!! Especially for those tough days when we just want to lay in bed and cry while cuddling with our four-legged bestie.
For many pet owners, dogs are family. And for one El Paso woman, that love turned into a heartfelt celebration of life for her beloved dog, Rose.
Diana Meraz recently learned that her pitbull, Rose, had been diagnosed with cancer. Instead of focusing on the heartbreak, Meraz decided to celebrate Rose and the joy she’s brought to her life over the last 13 years.

A Celebration Of Life Fit For A Princess:
Over the weekend, Meraz hosted a “celebration of life” party for her Pitbull Rose at El Paso’s Muttz Canine Social Club, a popular dog-friendly hangout known for its spacious outdoor patio, play areas for pups, and menu for both humans and their four-legged companions.
Meraz’s love for dogs runs deep. Her mother is the founder of A Home to Bark & Purr, a nonprofit dedicated to helping stray dogs in the El Paso community. That passion made it easy for Meraz to fall head over heels for Rose when she first saw her in 2012 while volunteering at El Paso Animal Services.
“I remember seeing Rose as a tiny puppy drinking milk from a bowl, and I instantly fell in love,” Meraz said. “I went home and told my mom I wanted a dog. She said no. I did it anyway! And now she’s the most loved little girl in our family.”

After learning about Rose’s diagnosis, Meraz decided against chemotherapy so Rose could enjoy the best quality of life possible. Instead, she’s focusing on making Rose’s remaining time extra special.
Friends and family gathered at Muttz to celebrate Rose with doggie cupcakes, treats, and cake for both pups and people.
“I am so incredibly grateful to everyone who came out to support me and Rose,” Meraz said. “Your love, prayers, and presence mean more than I can ever fully express.”
