Federal investigators are now assisting Houston police in the search for the driver responsible for a hit-and-run that killed Fort Bend County Deputy Kenneth Lewis.

HOUSTON — Federal investigators are now assisting in the search for the driver responsible for a fatal hit-and-run that killed a Fort Bend County deputy in Houston. Authorities say the suspect vehicle struck the deputy as he stopped to help others on the side of the road.

The FBI’s Houston office announced Thursday that it is now assisting the Houston Police Department in the investigation into the death of Deputy Kenneth Lewis.

Lewis was killed early Saturday, Feb. 21, after stopping to assist drivers involved in a minor crash along the westbound Katy Freeway near Eldridge Parkway.

Investigators with the Houston Police Department’s Vehicular Crimes Division said the crash happened around 3 a.m.

According to investigators, Lewis had pulled over to help drivers involved in the earlier accident when an unknown dark-colored vehicle struck him and continued driving without stopping.

Lewis was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his severe injuries.

Crime Stoppers of Houston is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that helps investigators identify the suspect responsible for the hit-and-run.

Lewis’ family is also asking the community to come forward with any information that could help bring accountability to the driver involved.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the suspect vehicle or driver to contact Crime Stoppers of Houston.
