The Red Room lets diners enjoy chef-crafted meals while supporting culinary students

Some of the most interesting dining experiences in North Texas aren’t always found in traditional restaurants. Sometimes, they happen in classrooms.

At Collin College’s Frisco Campus, The Red Room offers a restaurant experience where students run nearly every aspect of the operation. Open to the public, the restaurant functions as a hands-on training environment for students in the college’s hospitality and culinary programs.

Guests who reserve a table can enjoy a multi-course meal prepared and served by students while helping them build real-world experience in the restaurant industry.

A Restaurant That Doubles As A Classroom

The Red Room operates as a working educational lab for Collin College’s Institute of Hospitality and Culinary Education. Students from both the Dining Room Service and A La Carte Cooking classes collaborate to run the restaurant from front to back.

Each service features a menu created and executed by a student executive chef, while another student serves as maître d’, coordinating the dining room experience. Meanwhile, culinary students prepare and plate the dishes in the kitchen while hospitality students manage service for guests.

The goal is to give students practical experience in everything from food preparation and menu planning to guest service and restaurant management.

A Different Menu Every Week

One of the most exciting aspects of The Red Room is its rotating menu.

Each week brings a new theme or cuisine designed by student chefs, allowing them to experiment with different flavors, techniques and styles. Guests never quite know what they’ll get until the latest menu is released, making each visit a little different from the last.

This format helps students develop creativity while also learning how to execute full restaurant menus under real service conditions.

Dining That Supports Future Chefs

Because the restaurant serves as a training environment, diners play an important role in the learning process.

Guests are encouraged to provide feedback after their meals, helping students understand how real customers respond to their dishes and service. The experience mirrors the pressures and rewards of a professional restaurant while still providing a supportive educational setting.

The Red Room is one of many ways Collin College connects students with the broader community. The college has also earned national recognition for its work supporting military-connected students.

A Growing Campus In North Texas

Located at the Frisco campus near Wade Boulevard, The Red Room is part of a college that continues to expand its footprint across the region. The campus itself is seeing major growth, including plans for a large health sciences facility that will help train the next generation of healthcare professionals in North Texas.

With programs spanning everything from culinary arts to healthcare training, Collin College continues to play an important role in preparing the region’s future workforce.

The Red Room

The Red Room is located at Collin College’s Frisco Campus inside Alumni Hall (A150), 9700 Wade Blvd. in Frisco. The student-run restaurant serves as a hands-on learning lab where culinary and hospitality students plan menus, prepare dishes and manage the dining room as part of their professional training.

Guests can enjoy a weekly rotating menu created by student chefs, with a three-course meal and beverage priced at $20 before tax. Because seating is limited and the experience is popular with the community, reservations are required.
