Hemphill celebrates being named the “Bass Fishing Capital of Texas” with a new marker unveiled by local and state officials.
HEMPHILL, Texas — City of Hemphill and Sabine County officials celebrated Hemphill being named the “Bass Fishing Capital of Texas” Thursday morning.
A designation marker has been placed at the intersection of Texas Highway 87 and Farm to Market Road 83 East. Sabine County Sheriff George Griffith, Hemphill Mayor Stephen Crowell as well as state Rep. Joanne Shofner (Texas House District 11) attended the unveiling of the marker.Â
Shofner wrote the bill creating the statewide recognition with state Sen. Robert Nichols sponsoring the legislation as well. Gov. Greg Abbott signed the bill into law.
Several county, city officials and a crowd of residents attended the ceremony.
