LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The Lubbock County Republican Party has made its primary votes official, but it remains unclear who will advance to a runoff in the race for Texas’ 19th Congressional District.
The county GOP canvassed the votes today — a step that applies only to Lubbock County results. Election officials are still waiting for other counties in the district to finalize their ballots.
A runoff is expected for the Republican nomination for the congressional seat. But according to the Texas Secretary of State, fewer than 200 votes separate candidates Matt Smith and Abraham Enriquez for second place, with Tom Sell leading.
Lubbock County Republican Party Chair Bruegel said the election served as a strong test ahead of the November general election.
“This election went very well. I’m very pleased with how everything went… more election workers… overall, everything went off without a hitch, very successful election,” Bruegel said.
In Abilene, Taylor County records show its election office reconciled its primary votes yesterday. The document indicates there are no incomplete provisional ballots.
