AUSTIN, Texas — An unidentified man died following an altercation at Plains Capital Bank on March 11, 2026, according to Austin Police.

Officers responded to a disturbance call at 201 West 5th Street at 3:45 p.m., where they found the man lying on his back and appearing to snore. Attempts to rouse him were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at 4:46 p.m. by Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services, according to a press release from the Austin Police Department.

Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists determined that the man, who had previously harassed bank employees, punched a security guard in the face after being asked to leave. The guard struck back in self-defense, causing the man, who was in a wheelchair, to fall. He later got up, gathered his belongings, and laid back down on the floor, where he was found by officers and emergency services.

The Travis County District Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and decided no charges would be filed, deeming the incident an act of self-defense. This case is being investigated as Austin’s 15th homicide of 2026.
