IndyCar fans eager for the Java House Grand Prix of Arlington should prepare for thrilling races and roadblocks in the Arlington Entertainment District.
ARLINGTON, Texas — Indy champ Will Power and fellow members of the Andretti Global IndyCar Series team shopped the Lucchese boutique at Choctaw Stadium Thursday, admiring the Texas-made boots and premium western wear.Â
But on his first day in Arlington, the native Australian’s highest praise was for the design, quality, and craftsmanship of the Java House Grand Prix of Arlington track.
“It’s a very cool track. It’s very nicely laid out. Very well presented,” said the two-time IndyCar Champion and 2018 winner of the Indianapolis 500. “I think they should come out and check it out,” he said of fans who will begin watching races Friday morning at the course that winds through the Arlington Entertainment District. “We got some seriously good action on the track. So come and get your tickets and enjoy,” Power said.Â
But whether you are planning to enjoy the weekend or prefer to avoid all the traffic, the City of Arlington offered another reminder of what fans need to know.
The course covers 2.73 miles – 14 turns, looping around AT&T Stadium and Globe Life Field. That means that as race cars hit the course early Friday morning, multiple all-weekend roadblocks will be in place.
“Given all of the roadblocks and stuff, yes, we do anticipate some heavier traffic,” said Tim Ciesco of Arlington Police.
Arlington Police recommend Highway 360, Center Street, or Cooper Street to go north and south through Arlington. Collins Street has been reduced to one southbound lane during the duration of the race weekend.Â
Most of the streets that are part of the race course are scheduled to reopen to the public by 5 a.m. on Monday, March 16.Â
Some stretches where there will be more extensive teardown work won’t reopen until later in the week. Arlington PD says that fans coming to the race should plan ahead and figure out where they should park to be closest to their assigned seats. Fans needing to access parking lots to the north of the stadiums should use Road to Six Flags. Fans needing to access parking lots to the south of the stadiums should use Division Street.Â
The “Grand Prix of Arlington” app has detailed maps, information about parking, schedules, access points, and prohibited items.Â

“Certainly, if you are coming out for any of the race events, give yourself a little bit of extra time,” said Ciesco.
For those who recall the Texas Rangers World Series victory parade through the Arlington Entertainment District in 2023, similar traffic restrictions and delays could occur, except this time for the entire racing weekend.
Gates open at the Java House Grand Prix of Arlington at 9 a.m., Friday, March 13. The first on-track action scheduled is the GR Cup practice session beginning at 9:05 a.m. The first IndyNXT Series practice session begins at 2 p.m. And the first NTT IndyCar Series practice begins at 3:05 p.m.
