Dallas and Nichole Rice charged in theft investigation; archery club board releases statment

  • March 13, 2026

MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) – UPDATE (3/12/26 at 10 p.m.): The board for the Souris Valley Bowmen released the following statement to Your News Leader on Thursday’s developments:

“We have done our part, and the matter is now up to the North Dakota judicial system. We are glad it has reached this point so we can achieve closure and move forward as a club.”

UPDATE (3/12/2026 at 5:45 p.m.): Court documents and a news release are revealing more information on the charges filed Thursday against Dallas and Nichole Rice, following an investigation into financial issues with a Minot-area archery group.

The Ward County Sheriff’s Office said it received a complaint in late July 2025 from the board of Souris Valley Bowmen reporting concerns of potential theft of club funds. The board told investigators they believed around $160,000 had gone missing over the course of several years.

The sheriff’s office conducted a months-long investigation, leading to the charges filed against Dallas and Nichole.

According to charging documents filed on Thursday, prosecutors say between July 1, 2022, and around July 14, 2025, Dallas and Nichole took money exceeding $50,000.

The documents also charge Nichole with taking an amount between $10,000 and $50,000, and charge Dallas with taking an amount exceeding $50,000, in the same time frame.

Affidavits in the case have not been made public yet. We reached out to Dallas Rice for comment.

The news comes almost a year after Nichole Rice stood trial on a murder charge in the 2007 killing of Minot college student Anita Knutson. Nichole, who was roommates with Anita at the time of her death, was acquitted by the Grand Forks County jury.

Souris Valley Bowmen was founded in 1952, and commits itself to “educating and promoting the sport of archery, with special attention to youth involvement,” according to its website.

Neither of the Rices is listed on the website’s board of directors page. Your News Leader reached out to Souris Valley Bowmen for comment, and will update as we learn more.

ORIGINAL STORY (3/12/2026 at 3:45 p.m.): Dallas and Nichole Rice have been charged in district court in Ward County with felony charges.

Dallas faces charges of conspiracy to commit theft-take-exceeds $50,000, and theft-take-over $50,000, both A felonies.

Nichole Rice faces charges of A-felony conspiracy to commit theft-take-exceeds $50,000, and B-felony theft-take-$10,000-$50,000.

The news comes following a months-long investigation into financial issues with Souris Valley Bowmen, a Minot-area archery recreational organization.

Both have been issued criminal summons and have initial appearances on the charges set for April 7.

Your News Leader is working to gather more information on the details of the charges and will update you as we learn more.
