The Jewish community in Texas is on edge after Thursday’s attack on a temple in Michigan.

“Everyone should pay attention to their surroundings,” Rozalie Jerome of the Holocaust Remembrance Association said. “I know people are learning how to shoot guns, and not just depend on security.”

Dena Marks with the Anti-Defamation League says this was all too predictable.

“This is exactly the situation Jewish communities have been bracing for. This is kind of our new normal, and it’s scary.”

Jerome says when they held a recent event they had protection from no less than eight Houston Police Department vehicles.

“The entire community is under heightened tension,” Marks said, adding that there is no imminent threat at this time.

Law enforcement in the Houston area says it will step up patrols near houses of worship as a result of the attack in Michigan.
