The Corpus Christi César Chávez Marcha and similar events in major cities have been cancelled, with organizer Dr. Nancy Vera citing sensitive issues as the cause.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The 25th Corpus Christi César Chávez Marcha scheduled for March 28, 2026, has been cancelled due to sensitive issues.
According to organizers in a social media post, the cancellation mirrors similar decisions in San Francisco, Houston, San Antonio, and other locations across the nation.
The event committee says it received information from a trusted source regarding “sensitive matters” involving Chávez that are expected to be published in a New York Times article in April.
Organizers say the cancellations are also being encouraged by the César Chávez Foundation.
Event organizer Dr. Nancy Vera confirmed the cancellation to 3NEWS.
The event was going to be put on by the Corpus Christi American Federation of Teachers, the YWCA, and L&F distributors.
The march would have marked Corpus Christi’s 25th annual César Chávez Marcha, celebrating the American labor icon and civil rights activist who, along with Dolores Huerta, co-founded the United Farm Workers union to improve living conditions for farmworkers.
Organizers had planned for community members to join Huerta, Corpus Christi Mayor Paulette Guajardo, actor Pepe Serna, and Tejano singer Bobby Pulido for the march and festivities, encouraging participants to celebrate with banners, signs, and displays of community pride.
