EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) – Big dreams, big stages and, this week, a big free throw.
Local musician, Krystal Poppin, said she’s chasing the kind of music career that comes with big arenas, huge production and crowds singing every word back.
“I see these superstars on these big stages with huge production, with dancers, and everything like that, and these big arenas,” Poppin said. “And I’m like, that’s what I want, man.”
Poppin said the goal isn’t just the spotlight, but songs that connect.
“Like, I want to focus more on music that has a message,” Ashley said. “And I want those songs to be like reaching the people and inspiring them in some way.”
Before any arena tour dreams turn into reality, Ashley has a different kind of stage coming up this Friday: a Houston Rockets game.
“Yeah, so the Houston rockets have invited me to go shoot a free throw shot at their game this Friday,” Ashley said. The shot is tied to a charitable donation. “So if I make it, then they will be donating $5,000 to the charity,” Ashley said, adding, “And if I don’t make it, they’re still gonna donate, but not as much. So I really need to make this.”
The game is also a cultural celebration. Ashley said it’s called Noche Latina, describing it as a whole Latin night that celebrates the Latino culture and people there.
The musician said she’s very honored to be a part of it and is already thinking about the full look for the night.
“And I’m very excited to, you know, pop it with my outfit and everything,” she said. “So I just need to make this shot, God, please.”
There’s also one more detail Krystal Poppin is keeping an eye on: her nails. “Yes, I’m happy to be with the nails,” she said. “I got a flick. The flick involves the nails.”
As the conversation wrapped up, Ashley kept the love local, too: “And shout out to El Paso for reals.”
