Ashley Furniture will close a manufacturing plant in Mesquite in May, resulting in hundreds of layoffs.
The furniture maker informed 266 employees March 5 that it will shut down production at the facility at 4000 E. Scyene Road on May 7 as part of a larger effort to consolidate manufacturing operations, according to a filing with the state.
Positions impacted include more than 100 upholstery training workers as well as machine operators, packing workers and inspectors, according to the filing.
Employees in good standing who do not pursue and accept job opportunities with the company will receive severance when their employment is terminated May 7, according to the filing. The company also confirmed impacted workers are not part of a union. Ashley Furniture Industries LLC is the largest furniture manufacturer in the world and has 20,000 stores globally.
