School district police officer shoots himself while handling his weapon, hospitalized

SAN ANTONIO – An off-duty Judson School District police officer was taken to a hospital after accidentally shooting himself early Friday at a home on the city’s Northeast Side,

According to the San Antonio Police Department, officers were dispatched for a shooting in progress at 5:04 a.m. March 13, near the corner of Saldana Street and Espinosa Street.

Police said the complainant, a 67-year-old white man, accidentally shot himself in the lower part of his body while handling his weapon at his residence.

The man was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. Police said there are no criminal elements to the case.

The incident remains under investigation, and the information is preliminary, police said.
