SAN ANTONIO – A man in the driver’s seat of a Waymo has been cited after the autonomous vehicle ignored barricades and drove onto the scene of a house fire.
Around 1:25 a.m. on Thursday, crews were responding to a fire behind a home along Eisenhauer Road, between Molokao Drive and Loop 410.
However, while crews were on scene responding to the fire, a self-driving Waymo vehicle reportedly had disregarded the safety barrier that had been put up by first responders.
Officers stopped the vehicle and spoke with the male who had been in the driver’s seat.
According to the San Antonio Police Department, the officers cited the male driver for ‘Disregard other traffic signs & signals’ and for ‘Driving on the left – no passing’.
Police clarified that the driver was not arrested, just issued a ticket for the incident.
The San Antonio Fire Department said that there was no impact on firefighting efforts, and SAFD had no reported interaction with the vehicle.
