El Paso drivers are paying more than both the Texas average of about $3.29 and the national average of $3.63, according to AAA.

Some drivers said the increase is painful but may not last. “I think it hurts a lot of people, but I’m not sure it’s going to go on forever, so I’m more bullish that gas prices will settle,” one driver said.

Another driver said the higher prices are manageable for now. “As long as it doesn’t go past $5 I think I’m fine. That’s California prices,” the driver said.

For drivers looking to cut costs, AAA recommends simple habits such as avoiding hard acceleration and not letting a car idle for long periods to help save gas.
