Two people are charged with murder following a fatal shooting in Denton. Police identify Edwin Cain and Joy Jones as suspects in Dwayne Maurice Darden’s death.
DENTON, Texas — Two people were arrested and charged with murder in connection with an overnight shooting that left one man dead, according to police.
The Denton Police Department said officers responded to a shooting call at approximately 12:41 a.m. Saturday in the 400 block of E. Prairie Street. When officers got to the scene, they found a man lying in the middle of the street with a gunshot wound to the chest. Officers began lifesaving measures on the man until medics arrived, DPD said.Â
Multiple witnesses told police that a man, later identified as 39-year-old Edwin Cain, approached the victim in the middle of the street and started arguing with him. The argument turned into a physical altercation, according to Denton police, when 20-year-old Joy Jones exited a vehicle and fired multiple rounds at the man, which struck the victim.
Denton police said witnesses told them Cain and Jones fled the scene and the duo had previous incidents with the victim, who was later identified as 48-year-old Dwayne Maurice Darden. Darden was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Denton police said.
Denton police arrested Cain and Jones, who were booked into City of Denton Jail on murder charges.
