A late Oklahoma rally Friday cost Texas A&M baseball the opening game of its series with the Sooners. Saturday, they aim to even it against one of the top pitchers in the SEC.
The Aggies (15-2, 0-1) took an early lead over the Sooners (16-2, 1-0) Friday night, scoring four runs in the first inning.
However, Oklahoma tied the game 7-7 in the seventh, then scored the go-ahead run in the eighth inning to take the first one of the weekend.
Saturday, the Sooners send out right-hander LJ Mercurius. The 6-foot-2 junior surrendered one run in his season debut and has not allowed any since. He’s tallied 34 strikeouts and walked just six in 23â…“ innings.
A&M finally had its opening-day lineup back together Friday, and the new additions did not disappoint.
For just the third time this season, infielder Chris Hacopian and designated hitter Wesley Jordan were in the lineup, with both players combining for 3-for-6 at the plate, four walks and three RBIs.
