Four Fort Worth food establishments were closed for water issues during a recent health inspection and roaches were found at several others, according to data from the city compiled by the Star-Telegram.
Fort Worth uses a demerit system, with zero being a perfect score. Restaurants that receive more than 30 demerits are required to fix the worst violations immediately and clean up the rest within 48 hours. Here are the results for the round of inspections conducted between Feb. 22 and March 7.
Wayne’s Grocery Corporation at 1704 Vaughn Blvd. scored 22 on Feb. 25. An inspector found ready-to-eat taquitos and burritos at an unsafe temperature, a reach-in cooler that wasn’t working and insufficient hot water at the facility.Los Juanitos at 3221 Mansfield Highway scored 20 on March 2. A spray bottle wasn’t labeled, several containers of raw meat weren’t covered in the cooler and the hand sink in the employee restroom lacked sufficient hot water.A-1 Food Mart at 1801 E. Lancaster Ave. scored 16 on Feb. 24. Some employees hadn’t completed an accredited food-handler course, the outside trash receptacles weren’t covered and there was insufficient hot water in the employee restroom.Wild Acre Brewing at 1734 E. El Paso St. scored 12 on March 3. Some guacamole was uncovered in the cooler, employees hadn’t completed an accredited food course and water in the hand sink and three-compartment sink didn’t reach an acceptable temperature.
Wayne’s Grocery, Los Juanitos, A-1 Food Mart and Wild Acre Brewing were all required to close until the hot-water issues could be fixed.
Three establishments received high scores, including one that got over 30 demerits:
Berry Food Mart at 3300 E. Berry St. scored 34 on Feb. 25. Raw bacon and other meats were stored above fresh produce, fruit flies were present in the storage area and food debris had accumulated on cabinets and drawers.Jorge’s Taqueria at 5800 E. Berry St. scored 29 on March 5. Several cheese products were held at an unsafe temperature, sewage was backed up underneath the three-compartment sink and some dry foods were stored without a label.Neto’s Food Mart at 2611 N.E. 28th St. scored 26 on Feb. 26. The inspector found organic matter inside the ice machine, several bottles of drinks on the floor and water-damaged ceiling tiles in the grocery area.
Roaches were reported at four facilities:
Hot Shot Food Store at 4413 E. Berry St. scored 18 on Feb. 26. The inspector noted lettuce and tomatoes at an unsafe temperature, a missing thermometer in the freezer and two dead roaches near the three-compartment sink.Carniceria La Superior at 700 N. Sylvania Ave. scored 13 on March 4. Some milk had expired, dishes were stored in the hand sink and a roach was found in the kitchen.La Sylvania Food Store at 803 N. Sylvania Ave. scored 10 on Feb. 26. The inspector found some moldy carrots in the refrigerator and a roach in the restroom.Manor Independent Living at 8000 Calmont Ave. scored 8 on March 3. Some mashed potatoes and gravy were stored without a date marking and a dead roach was found in a cabinet in the dining area.
