Texas softball tied the school record for most consecutive wins Sunday while completing a three-game sweep of Ole Miss with a 15-3 victiory at McCombs Field.
The No. 3 Longhorns (26-1, 6-0 SEC) have now won 24 straight games, which ties the 2006 squad for the program’s longest winning streak. Texas will have a chance to set the new record Friday in a nonconference game against visiting Baylor.
The Longhorns made quick work of Ole Miss in a game shortened to five innings because of the eight-run mercy rule. They pounded out a dozen hits and stole four bases, and seven different players had at least one hit. Center fielder Kayden Henry paced the team with three RBIs and three runs, and Leighann Goode, Jaycie Nichols and Kaiah Altmeyer each had two hits.
That offense proved more than enough for Texas pitcher Teagan Kavan, who improved to 11-0 while allowing eight hits with three strikeouts in the complete-game win.
