On Sunday evening, Texas was awarded a No. 1 seed for the NCAA Tournament. Texas (31-3) will host either Missouri State (22-12) or Stephen F. Austin (25-9) in a first-round game this upcoming Friday. If it advances past that first-round matchup, Texas will return to its home gym two days later to play the winner of Friday’s showdown between Oregon (22-12) and Virginia Tech (23-9) at Moody Center.

Moody Center will additionally host Wednesday’s “First Four” play-in game between Missouri State and Stephen F. Austin.

Oregon and Virginia Tech will respectively be the No. 8 and No. 9 seeds in their quadrant of the NCAA Tournament’s bracket. Both Missouri State and Stephen F. Austin are seen as No. 16 seeds.

The NCAA selection committee has also recognized Texas as its bracket’s No. 3 overall seed. That lines the Longhorns up to potentially play its Sweet 16 and Elite 8 games in Fort Worth. The Final Four will be held in Phoenix this season with the national championship game set for April 5.

Since Texas head coach Vic Schaefer arrived in Austin ahead of the 2020-21 season, the Longhorns are 14-5 in the NCAA Tournament. Three of UT’s last five seasons ended in the Elite 8 round, but Texas made it last year to the Final Four for the first time since 2003.
