AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Fire Department rescued a pet while extinguishing a fire in NE Austin Sunday evening.

Officials stated around 6:30 p.m. that they were on the scene of a kitchen fire that extended to the attic of a house at 3112 Lynridge Dr.

The main body of the fire had been knocked down by then and crews were extinguishing hot spots in the attic.

After all occupants got out of the home safely, a resident of the home reported that their dog was still inside the home. After an extensive search, crews located the dog, rescuing it from the smoky conditions and administered oxygen.

The pet was transferred to Austin-Travis County EMS for further care.

The fire was stated to be under control just before 7 p.m., with crews overhauling the attic and ensuring all hot spots were extinguished.
