Hollywood’s favorite good ol’ boy is back where he belongs. Between film sets and red carpets, “Twisters” star Glen Powell has been spending his fall doing what any true Austinite would — eating ribs at Salt Lick BBQ, two-stepping at The Broken Spoke and turning a Walmart parking lot into a party.

For Powell, who grew up in Austin and never misses a chance to show love for his hometown, coming back to Texas is a ritual. Whether he’s ordering his go-to plate of pork ribs in Driftwood or line dancing under neon lights on South Lamar, the actor seems happiest when he’s home in the Hill Country.

Last weekend, during Formula 1, Glen Powell made a pit stop at Salt Lick BBQ in Driftwood. The Austin native dropped by the family-run institution for a plate of their famous pork ribs.

Powell also traded the big screen for the dance floor, dropping by Austin’s legendary honky-tonk, The Broken Spoke. The venue has hosted legends from Willie Nelson to Dolly Parton to Dua Lipa — and now, Powell himself.

According to The Broken Spoke’s Instagram, the actor “dropped by to do some two-stepping” during a Saturday night show celebrating co-owners Ginny White-Peacock and Annetta White’s birthdays. Photos captured Powell dancing with Timberlee Reid, chatting with longtime performer Dale Watson (who’s shared stages with Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard), and ordering drinks at the bar like any other local.

“He must’ve known it was Annetta and Ginny White’s birthdays,” the bar joked online.

Powell’s Austin appearances aren’t all honky-tonk cameos and barbecue feasts. Earlier this month, he showed up at a South Austin Walmart to grill in the parking lot and hang with fans — part of a promotion for his new Hulu and Disney+ series “Chad Powers.”
