ABILENE, Texas — The 2026 Central Texas Gem and Mineral Show took place over the weekend, drawing enthusiasts from across the country. Attendees browsed through an impressive collection of gemstones, fossils, and handcrafted jewelry, while interactive exhibits offered educational and engaging experiences for visitors of all ages.

The weekend-long event was held in Abilene (KTXS/Briannagh Dennehy).
Linda Walker, president of the Central Texas Gem and Mineral Society, emphasized the show’s wide-reaching appeal to collectors and vendors across America.
“At one point, we had people coming from Idaho,” Walker said. “We’ve had people travel great distances to be here. I believe there is someone here from New Mexico this year.”

Reflecting on the history of the nonprofit, Walker highlighted the club’s long-standing legacy.
“Our club was founded in 1954. We have been an organization for 72 years. We have been putting on this annual show for a while now. It is so wonderful,” she said. “Children love the rocks and adults love the jewelry. It’s an event for people of all ages.”

Dawit Habtegiorgis, owner of Izoke, displayed a selection of opals, drawing attention to their vibrant hues and distinct patterns.
“The opals are very diverse. If you look at one of them, you will spend hours just gazing into them. Every single opal is completely different,” he said. “The colors and sizes are very different. By looking at these opals, you learn to appreciate the beauty of God’s creations.”
