Dallas, Texas – A sharp early-morning cold snap is pushing temperatures well below freezing across North Texas, threatening plants and outdoor plumbing across the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex before sunrise Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, a Freeze Warning remains in effect from 4 a.m. until 9 a.m. CDT Monday for a large portion of north-central and northeast Texas, including the Dallas–Fort Worth area. Temperatures in some rural locations could fall as low as 18°F, creating a hard freeze capable of damaging early-season vegetation.

The warning includes major cities such as Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, Plano, Denton, McKinney, Sherman, Weatherford, and Greenville, along with surrounding communities from Paris and Bonham to Stephenville, Hillsboro, and Eastland.
The region experienced gusty winds overnight, though the earlier Wind Advisory expired around 1 a.m. Breezy conditions may still continue through the early morning hours, allowing cold air to spread quickly across the region.
Forecasters warn that frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, gardens, and sensitive landscaping plants, particularly in outlying areas away from the urban heat of the metroplex.
Residents are urged to cover outdoor plants, bring potted plants inside, and protect exposed pipes before temperatures bottom out early Monday morning. Conditions should improve after 9 a.m. Monday, as sunshine helps temperatures climb back above freezing across North Texas.
