EL PASO, Texas — The El Paso Police Department, in collaboration with the Texas Department of Public Safety, is set to commence the Citizen Police Academy (CPA) for 2026 on April 7.
The CPA is a community policing initiative designed to educate citizens about various functions within the El Paso Police Department and Texas DPS, according to a press release from the department. The program will cover topics such as Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Use of Force, Texas Rangers, SWAT, Bomb Squad, and Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE), among others.
The sessions will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with two additional Saturday classes, concluding on April 30, 2026. Interested individuals must be at least 18 years old and not currently in high school to apply. There is no upper age limit for participation.
Applications are available online at eppd.org under the community policing tab and must be submitted by March 30, 2026.
