Dallas Rice pleads not guilty in archery group theft case

  • March 17, 2026

MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) – One of the two people accused of stealing thousands of dollars from a Minot-area archery group has pleaded not guilty, court records show.

Last week, prosecutors charged Dallas and Nichole Rice with using thousands of dollars from Souris Valley Bowmen for personal expenses over a roughly three-year period.

Dallas waived his initial appearance set for April 7, entered a not guilty plea, and requested a jury trial, according to a filing from his attorney on Friday.

Nichole, who has a different attorney, did not have a similar filing as of late Monday afternoon. We reached out to her attorney for comment.

North Central District Judge Steven Lautt, the assigned attorney for both case files, recused himself from each one and asked the courts to reassign another judge to the cases.

A filing from Lautt does not state the reason. Recusals are common and are often used if the judge has any conflict of interest in the case or connection to the parties or attorneys involved.

The April 7 initial appearance remains on the court schedule for the co-defendants. No further dates have been set yet.
