A last-minute goal from Corpus Christi FC forced a 2-2 tie for FC Naples in the second week of the USL League One at Paradise Sports Complex.
Action started three minutes into the game when FC Naples’ left winger Andres Ferrin pushed forward with an impressive run and delivered a cross that was deflected by the Corpus Christi defense. FC Naples midfielder Marc Torellas, in his second season with the club, found the loose ball and fired a powerful shot through the middle and between the goalkeeper’s hands.
After this goal, Corpus Christi FC responded and took the initiative of the game.
In the 43rd minute, Corpus Christi right winger Toman Pondeca delivered a strike from outside the box that went into the bottom corner, which tied the game 1-1.

With six minutes of extra time added in the first half, FC Naples had a clear chance to take the lead at halftime when FC Naples midfielder Aiden Mesias had his shot blocked on the goal line. The game was tied 1-1 going into halftime.
The second half was an even, back-and-forth affair, with few clear chances for either team. It wasn’t until three minutes left that a link-up on the left wing between forwards Chris Garcia and Dominick Bachstein gave FC Naples a 2-1 lead.
Bachstein, who was subbed in for midfielder Kevin O’Connor in the 67th minute of the game, has scored in both games this season, having a total of two goals in the season so far.
“The fact that he’s scored in every game, he has played excellent so far,” said FC Naples coach Matt Poland. “You can see him battling out there and finishing his chances.”
With the game nearly over, Poland added an extra center-back to hold on to the lead.
However, Corpus Christi FC managed to tie the game when midfielder Bubu Medina fired a shot from outside the box that went into the bottom right of the corner.
This result places FC Naples at the top of the USL League One table with 4 points, while Corpus Christi breaks into the eighth spot with just one point. FC Naples will return to the Paradise Coast Complex on March 18 against Red Force FC for the US Open Cup.
