TEXAS CITY, Texas (KTRK) — A Texas City police pursuit ended with the suspect dying in a crash on SH 146 at FM 646, according to authorities.

The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office said it is assisting the Texas City Police Department with an investigation into a deadly crash that happened on SH 146 at FM 646 at about 2:55 p.m. on Tuesday.

According to GCSO, preliminary information indicates that the crash followed a pursuit involving the Texas City PD. The pursuit ended in a crash with the suspect involved in the pursuit being pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

Officials said three people were taken to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

GCSO said its Crash team, Major Crimes Unit, and Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene of the crash. The Galveston County District Attorney’s Office also responded to the scene as the investigation continues.

Authorities said that the northbound and southbound lanes were shut down as the investigation is underway.

GCSO said drivers are strongly advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes, as the roadway is expected to remain closed for several hours as the investigation is conducted.

Details on what started the initial police pursuit are unknown.
