A sprawling castle-like mansion in Fort Worth, Texas, is on the market for $7.5 million.

The more than 19,000-square-foot stone fortress, in the city’s guard-gated Montserrat enclave, was listed earlier in March, after failing to sell at auction in December.

Fitted with towers, stone and wooden arches, columns, ornate ceilings, lancet windows and character-laden interiors, the property was built in 2006 for energy tycoon Bob Simpson, the co-owner and co-chairman of the MLB’s Texas Rangers.

“It appears the property was intentionally designed to resemble a European castle,” said listing agent Ida Duwe-Olsen of the Duwe-Olsen Real Estate Group at Compass.

Its uniqueness “can absolutely impact the selling process—but not necessarily in a negative way,” Duwe-Olsen said. “The target market is the ultra-high-net-worth buyer seeking a statement property. This property is an estate—a legacy, a compound for a sophisticated buyer. A billionaire’s home.”

Simpson sold the stately home in 2021 to the current owner, listing records show.

Since Texas is a non-disclosure state, the purchase price is not publicly available, but at the time, the house had been on the market for $5.5 million. The owner couldn’t be reached for comment.

Along with its decidedly distinctive look, the seven-bedroom home also has 18 bathrooms, indoor and outdoor pools, a professional-grade sports court, a climate-controlled wine room, a theater, a gym, a dedicated guest residence and a primary suite with a dedicated elevator to access a private office above, according to the listing.

“The biggest selling points are not just the incredible features,” Duwe-Olsen said, “but how rare they are to find, particularly in Fort Worth.”
