An Amtrak train collided with an 18-wheeler late Tuesday morning near Missouri City, southwest of Houston, leading to hours-long traffic delays that are expected to continue throughout the evening.
According to Missouri City officials, an Amtrak train hit an 18-wheeler at a railroad crossing located at U.S. 90-A at Cravens Road. Missouri City firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and the train was evacuated.
In a statement by Amtrak, the train was traveling from Los Angeles to New Orleans when it made contact with the 18-wheeler at approximately 11:10 a.m.

Amtrak said there were 93 passengers and 11 crew members on board the train at the time of the collision. There were no reports of serious injuries.
“As a precaution, customers were moved off of the train,” Amtrak said. “They will continue east aboard chartered buses.”
Missouri City said a Houston METRO bus was used to transport the train occupants.
In a post on social media, Missouri City Fire and Rescue Services said two minor medical incidents were reported and the train did not derail.
At approximately 4:30 p.m., Missouri City said that traffic delays and road closures are expected to continue and CenterPoint crews were on site to conduct repairs to damaged utility poles and lines.
A hazardous materials team was dispatched to the area due to a fuel spill. But according to Missouri City, concerns about hazardous materials were resolved as of Tuesday afternoon.
