The Cowboys could land a star on a bargain.

The Dallas Cowboys still have more work to do in order to ensure that the team’s defense is capable of holding their own as the franchise looks to return to the NFL playoffs. NFL free agency is already drying up less than two weeks after it started, but there are a few potential remaining bargains.

Dallas could also turn to the upcoming NFL draft for help, but rookies have a lot of varied outcomes in regards to their initial production. Few players have the resume of New Orleans Saints star Cameron Jordan.

But with his 37th birthday fast approaching, teams do not appear as eager to sign Jordan which could present a potential bargain opportunity. Enter the Cowboys who have been labeled as a top potential landing spot by CBS Sports’ Shanna McCarriston and Carter Bahns.

“While Jerry Jones said he is prepared to spend more this offseason, he missed out on the top edge rushers in the free agency class,” McCarriston and Bahns wrote in a March 17, 2026, story titled, “Cameron Jordan landing spots: Cowboys, Bears among logical destinations if Saints balk on reunion.”

“Jordan can deliver a necessary production boost at a fraction of the cost, giving Jones the ability also to address other positions on a defense that allowed more points than any other team in 2025. The Cowboys will add edge rushers with four of their own hitting the market, so why not bring in a reliable veteran who can help this unit improve right away?”

Let’s dive into Jordan’s potential fit with the Cowboys.

Potential Cowboys Target Cameron Jordan Posted 10.5 Sacks With the Saints in 2025

Jordan is coming off 10.5 sacks with the Saints in 2025, his highest production since 2021. The pass rusher also posted 47 tackles, 15 quarterback hits, 15 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles last season. Jordan has not missed a game since 2022, starting all 17 contests for New Orleans in three straight seasons.

Jordan last signed a two-year, $27.9 million contract extension with the Saints in 2023 but is now a free agent. Spotrac projects Jordan’s market value to be a one-year, $6.7 million, a modest amount by NFL standards especially considering his production.

Cowboys Rumors: Dallas ‘Out’ on Trading for Raiders Star Maxx Crosby, Says Insider

The Cowboys continue to be linked to Las Vegas Raiders pass rusher Maxx Crosby. Yet, Dallas appeared more interested in Crosby before the trade was vetoed by the Baltimore Ravens. The Dallas Morning News’ Calvin Watkins reported that the Cowboys are likely “out” on acquiring Crosby, especially by trading for Rashan Gary.

“It seems the Cowboys are out of the Maxx Crosby picture,” Watkins detailed in a March 16, story titled, “Have Dallas Cowboys, George Pickens made any new progress toward a long-term deal?” “The team offered two draft picks — a first- and second-rounder — and was willing to take on a bulk of his salary and deal with his knee issues.

“Now that the Crosby trade with Baltimore fell through, going back at Crosby isn’t in the plans at this stage. Trading for Rashan Gary and focusing on finding another pass rusher in the NFL draft is where the Cowboys sit right now.”
