Two Injured After High-Speed Police Pursuit Ends in Seguin Crash
Austin, TX (March 18, 2026) — On Monday evening, 39-year-old Frances Lerma and a 42-year-old Seguin resident suffered injuries after a horrific crash on I-10.
Authorities said the incident began around 6:25 p.m. when deputies assisted in pursuing a black Mustang traveling east on Interstate 10 near the 591-mile marker. The driver, identified as 41-year-old John Guajardo of San Antonio, refused to stop and sped away, reaching speeds over 100 mph.
The pursuit continued south along FM 725, passing through several intersections before the Mustang slammed into another vehicle at North Austin Street and West Krezdorn Street.
The impact left the Seguin driver with neck and back pain. Emergency responders transported him to a nearby hospital for evaluation. Meanwhile, a passenger in the fleeing vehicle, Lerma, sustained minor injuries.
Deputies arrested Guajardo shortly after the crash without further incident. Authorities booked him into Guadalupe County Jail on charges of evading arrest with a vehicle and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Officials continue to investigate the case.
Let’s Drive Safer Together
High-speed crashes can occur in the blink of an eye, but so many are preventable with small, intelligent decisions. Pay attention, don’t get distracted (say, by texting) and never drive after drinking. As ever – obey speed limits, buckle up and keep plenty of room between yourself and other vehicles. These are small enough measures to save lives — including your own.
We can all take steps to help keep our roads safe for ourselves, our families and our communities.
PSA: High-speed pursuits put everyone on the road at serious risk. Drivers should remain alert, avoid speeding, and always yield to emergency vehicles to help prevent dangerous collisions like this.
