A Swedish autonomous freight company may bring driverless trucks to Texas State Highway 130.

Einride said it has signed a memorandum of understanding to use SH 130 as its preferred corridor for driverless shipment between the Austin and San Antonio areas. The Swedish company said it operates one of the world’s largest electric heavy-duty fleets in the U.S., Europe and the Middle East.

“This partnership with SH 130 Concession Company marks an important step forward in proving the scalability and economic benefits of electric and autonomous freight,” said Roozbeh Charli, chief executive officer of Einride, in a statement.

The company boasts audited safety frameworks and proper cybersecurity standards in its news release about the trucks, and it announced a “plan to draft a blueprint for a next-generation rest stop designed to manage electric autonomous trucks” with the help of the SH 130 Concession Company.

“By establishing this testbed, Einride is further cementing Austin, Texas as a hub for our American autonomous freight operations, collaborating with infrastructure operators and regulators to scale safe, performance-based deployments,” Charli said in a statement.
