LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KFOX14) — People in El Paso County with outstanding warrants now have a new way to turn themselves in that officials say is faster and more predictable than being arrested unexpectedly.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office has launched a Warrant Self-Surrender Initiative that offers eligible individuals an expedited booking and processing option at the El Paso County Detention Facility.
Under the initiative, people can first verify their warrant status by visiting the El Paso County website at www.epcounty.com, selecting the Public Records link and then clicking on the Warrant Search tab.
After securing a bond with the bonding company of their choice, participants can report to the El Paso County Detention Facility at 601 E. Overland, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., to complete the expedited booking and processing.
The sheriff’s office said individuals with active traffic warrants from EPPD or EPSO do not qualify unless prior arrangements have been made to clear them.
The initiative also includes special extended hours from March 23 through March 27, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
For more information about eligibility, location and hours, the sheriff’s office said people can contact the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Section at (915) 273-3762.
