A family member of a Dallas man said he is fighting for his life after a gunman is seen on camera shooting him at close range. The shots were fired just as a pizza was being delivered.

Nearly three weeks later, the shooter remains on the run.

Ring doorbell footage shows pizza being delivered at the 1800 block of Sedona Lane on a Sunday afternoon in early March. Maria Perez told NBC 5 it’s where her brother lives.

She said he never ordered pizza for himself that day but opened the door because he thought his girlfriend might have sent it.

“He didn’t think nothing of it. When he saw the delivery man come,” she said. “He opened the door to receive a pizza that he did not order. When he opened the door immediately, he was shot.”

Dallas Police confirmed with NBC 5 that the shooting is under investigation.

Officers responded to the call and said they found a man in critical condition. The department also released home surveillance footage from a different angle.

The investigation confirms what Perez told NBC 5. A male victim received a food delivery he had not requested when an unknown suspect is seen approaching from the driveway. The suspect fires shots at the victim before leaving in a silver Chevrolet Trax.

Perez said her brother, whose name she did not wish to share, was targeted. She described getting the phone call that her brother had been shot.

“The first thought I have in my head is to be strong and figure out what do we do next, like what steps,” said Perez.

She can’t wrap her mind around the idea that someone allegedly delivered pizza to her brother’s house and hid in the driveway for the arrival of the driver, also unaware that someone would come out of hiding and open fire.

“It’s crazy that someone would plan something out, go through with it, and then shoot somebody several times and not care for their well-being and their life. I feel like they need to be put away,” she said.

Perez said this was an elaborate plan to take her brother’s life, but can’t think of a reason why. She’s amazed he survived.

“He’s currently fighting for his life. He was shot approximately eighteen times. Stomach, legs, arms, chest,” she said. “We’re thankful and we’re glad that he’s alive but at the same time we’re scared that person might be coming back.”
