AUSTIN, Texas — A pedestrian was killed in a collision involving a motor vehicle on Menchaca Road, marking Austin’s 15th fatal crash of the year.

On February 20, 2026, at approximately 6:53 p.m., Austin Police Department officers responded to the incident in the 9300 block of Menchaca Road. The pedestrian, identified as 24-year-old Jefferson Gustavo Ramirez Ramirez, was transported to a local hospital and later pronounced deceased on March 6, according to a press release from the department. The driver involved remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 15th fatal crash of 2026, resulting in 15 fatalities. On the same date in 2025, there were seven fatal crashes resulting in seven deaths, stated the source.
