The conservative group, ‘Texas Values’ is calling out the Austin ISD for scheduling a ‘pride week’ next week, even though it is now against the law.

“30% of 3rd graders in Austin ISD can’t read at grade level, and the district’s concern is pride week in the middle of March” (not even June) said Jonathan Covey, director of policy with Texas Values, “So, parents are concerned.”

The question is, should parents be concerned about other districts across the state as well?

“I think that’s a good question” Covey told KTRH, “We are continuing to monitor district’s across the state, many school systems seem to be taking steps to comply.”

Unfortunately, the Austin ISD continues to go the other way, taking steps to defy. Even though it’s against the law. In the last Texas legislative session (2025), SB 12, the parental bill of rights was passed.

“The Texas Legislature was clear in their message that parents and Texans want schools to stop having LGBT lessons, activities, and ideas in public schools. The fact that Austin ISD is even trying to be clandestine with their photography by hiding school logos suggests that they know they are doing something wrong. It would be best to cancel Pride week this year and postpone it indefinitely” said Mary Elizabeth Castle, Director of Government Relations for Texas Values, which sent a letter to the Austin ISD, reminding them about it.

“They’re pretty good at ignoring us, and we haven’t received a response from them” noted Covey, “But we’ll see what the TEA decides to do, or the Attorney General’s office. It’s really a blatant attempt to focus on political issues and ideology.”

Something that the left has been doing for a long time, even here in Texas.
