Could Jerry Jones end up bring in Rasul Douglas?
After a frustrating 2025 season, the Dallas Cowboys are expected to have themselves a very busy offseason. Their biggest need is to improve their defense, as it was one of the NFL’s worst this past season. Due to this, they are undoubtedly a team to watch very closely as the offseason carries on.
The Cowboys have added a few notable players to their roster this offseason already. Among them are Rashan Gary, Jalen Thompson, and Cobie Durant. Overall, the Cowboys have made some solid moves so far, but they should not be done adding to their defense yet. This is especially so when noting that president and general manager Jerry Jones was very critical of the team’s defense last season.
Because of this, the Cowboys are now being urged to target an interesting cornerback who has a Super Bowl ring on his resume.
Veteran Cornerback Rasul Douglas Named a Potential Fit for the Cowboys
Recently, CBS Sports’ Garrett Podel looked at five players who the Cowboys should consider targeting this offseason. Among the players who Podel mentioned was cornerback Rasul Douglas.
“Cornerback Rasul Douglas still has some gas left in his NFL tank. He picked off two passes, and his passer rating allowed as the primary defender in coverage was 64.4, which ranked 20th in the NFL among 112 defenders who had at least 150 pass attempts against them as the primary defender. Douglas could be a savvy veteran piece who provides insurance should DaRon Bland and Shavon Revel Jr. continue to deal with injury issues,” Podel wrote.
With the Cowboys’ defense needing improvement, bringing in a solid player like Douglas would have the potential to benefit them. If the Cowboys landed Douglas, he would give them another good option at the cornerback position. The nine-year veteran would also be a good mentor for the Cowboys’ younger players as they look to get things back on track during the 2026 season.
Douglas is also coming off a strong 2025 season with the Miami Dolphins, which adds to his appeal. In 15 games with the Dolphins this past season, the 6-foot-2 cornerback had two interceptions and 62 combined tackles. With numbers like these, he would be a nice player for the Cowboys to bring on to their roster.
Cowboys Are Due for More Moves This Offseason
Whether the Cowboys bring in Douglas or not, it is clear that they should not be done making moves yet. There are still multiple parts on their roster that could use improvement, so it would not be particularly surprising if they were aggressive as the offseason rolls on.
The Cowboys have missed the playoffs in each of the last two years as well. Because of this, the Cowboys are in a place where they should be looking to boost their roster. This is especially so when looking at how frustrating this past season went, as evidenced by their underwhelming 7-9-1 record.
It is going to be very interesting to see what other moves the Cowboys make during this offseason from here. Douglas looks like he could be a good fit on paper, but time will tell if they end up landing him.
