You might see people hanging off of Reunion Tower on Thursday and Friday. Here’s why.
DALLAS — You’ll soon see new, brighter lights of Dallas’ iconic Reunion Tower, but first, you can see them getting installed.Â
Between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Friday this week, engineers will replace the lights on the ball, the tower said in a press release. The last time the lights were changed was Jan. 1, 2012, officials said.Â
“This is a big moment that doesn’t happen frequently,” Reunion Tower officials said.Â
The original lights on Reunion Tower had a single 50W RGB Pixel; now the tower will have an even brighter center, and is surrounded by 32 additional smaller lights, officials said. The diameter of the lights themselves is also bigger.
“Even more simply put, the new light is brighter and has more bulbs that can create better color and white light,” the release states.Â
The lights are also lighter, reducing the weight of the ball by 1.4 tons, the release states. Engineers will use nine miles of wire, or the distance from downtown Dallas to Live Field, when placing the lights.Â
A team of 14 people built and tested the new lights, and a team of one engineer and three rope technicians will work to install them over two days, officials said.Â
