A landscaping project along I-10 that started back in 2024 is finally done and truly, (literally), helps El Paso shine.
It took a couple of years and a lot of money … funded by the Texas Department of Transportation, (TXDoT), as part of their “green ribbon program” … but the decorations are finally up and running in 15 different locations around ElChuco.

Watching the workers as I’d drive past, especially when sitting still in a construction related traffic jam, I didn’t really get it. I thought they were just repairing cracks in the walls or something. Turns out there was actually a little more method to the madness.
I-10’s New Look Celebrates El Paso
The decor and lighting installed along I-10 in El Paso isn’t standard TXDoT stuff you’ll see everywhere else in Texas. The new features, (in 15 different locations), are all “lit” with new LED lighting that changes colors and represent things El Paso is known for.
A steel Franklin Mountains design recognizing Franklin Mountains State Park, the largest urban state park in the USA.The planters have stars that change colors as an homage to the star on teh mountain. Which, if you don’t know, wasn’t always a star and has been there longer than most realize … over __ years.Two “sun beam” sculptures went up in honor of the fact that the “Sun City” is just that. I-10 is a critical connection for commerce that fuels economic development, growth, and stability from coast to coast. TxDOT is currently working on multiple improvements to this vital stretch of interstate. – txdot.gov
An 11-mile stretch of I-10 is going to be widened from 4 to 6 lanes.Safety lighting and “high mast lighting” will accompany the ne lanes.A new interchange is going up as well as a new underpass and new bypass lanes.Existing overpasses will (eventually) have more clearanceExit ramps will be “reversed” so traffic won’t back up onto the freeway itself.More than 30 bridges are to be built or rebuilt.I-10 In El Paso Gets New Tech Too
There will soon be new/updated technology coming to “10” via digital messaging signs and closed-circuit cameras. The signs will make it easier to alert drivers to problems and the cameras are to help big brother keep a better eye on us.
