You can find some pretty bizarre stuff in random Lubbock parking lots. Not full-blown crimes or anything majorly dramatic, but just weird stuff. The kind of stuff that makes you look twice and scratch your head.

Lubbock parking lots are their own little ecosystem. People eat lunch in their cars, take phone calls, wait on friends, and occasionally do things that feel just suspicious enough to make you wonder what exactly is going on. (We don’t snitch around here though, folks…soo…shush!)

One of the most classic sights is the person who has been sitting in their parked car for a suspiciously long time. The engine might be running, the windows might be down, and they’re just… there. Maybe they’re scrolling their phone. Maybe they’re staring straight ahead like they’re contemplating every decision they’ve ever made. Either way, you’ve walked past them twice, and they haven’t moved.

Then there’s the mysterious two-truck meeting. You’ll see two pickups parked nose-to-nose or window-to-window, with both drivers leaning out, talking like they’ve known each other for 30 years. Sometimes the trucks are parked diagonally across multiple spaces, like the conversation was just too important to worry about parking lines.

Another suspicious parking lot staple is the random mattress. No explanation, no nearby moving truck, just a full mattress sitting next to a dumpster or leaning against a cart return like someone simply decided, “You know what? This is the mattress’s journey now.”

Lubbock parking lots also seem to attract people who are very passionately reorganizing their vehicles. You’ll see someone with every door open, the trunk up, and half their belongings spread out while they dig through boxes like they’re searching for a missing artifact.

And of course, there’s always the person driving slowly through the lot like they’re searching for something very specific. You can’t tell if they’re looking for a parking spot, a person, or just figuring out where they are.

None of these things are necessarily suspicious on their own. But when you see them often enough, you start to realize that Lubbock parking lots have their own strange little stories happening every day…and sometimes you’re not entirely sure you want to know what they are…especially off Ave Q…
