Builders will assemble modular, prefabricated construction elements on site at 1220 and 1224 Grove St. The cost-efficient technique yields faster construction timelines, according to a press release.

The 1,600-square-foot homes will feature three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a 118-square foot front porch. Once completed, one home will be sold to a Houston Habitat homebuyer, while the other will first serve as a temporary educational model.

“These two homes represent a step forward in innovative housing and a strong commitment to the community we serve,” said Allison Hay, CEO of Houston Habitat for Humanity. “By bringing modular homes to Houston, we hope to showcase their efficiency, affordability and superior build quality.”

Grant funding for the project was provided by Bank of America and CenterPoint Energy, which contributed a combined $350,000 to the program. Land was obtained at a below-market rate from Houston Land Bank.
