Porch shooting suspect’s get-away car | Screengrab from surveillance video/DPD Beat

Police are asking the public for information about a front-porch shooting earlier this month in a residential neighborhood in South Dallas that left a man critically injured.

Officers responded to the call at about 4:13 p.m. in the 1800 block of Sedona Lane on March 1. Dallas Fire-Rescue transported the victim to a hospital in critical condition after an unknown suspect shot him, according to a report.

Surveillance video captured the victim receiving a food delivery he had not ordered moments before the suspect approached and opened fire. The video, captured by a security camera across the street, shows a delivery driver approaching the victim’s home carrying what appears to be an insulated food container, similar to those often used for pizza deliveries.

The driver rings the doorbell, and as he discusses the food delivery order with the homeowner through a screened door, the suspect can be seen lurking in front of the home’s garage behind a parked truck.

When the homeowner opens the screen door to accept the delivery, the assailant rushes onto the porch and shoots the victim while the deliveryman jumps out of the line of fire.

The shooter, dressed in dark clothing, turns to leave, but then comes back to fire at the victim again. In all, the victim was struck eight times.

The delivery person tosses the food onto the porch and runs back to his car as the shooter flees in the opposite direction.

After the delivery person sees the shooter speed away in a silver crossover SUV, he returns to the front porch and uses his phone to call for help, Ring camera footage shows. Police later identified the gunman’s vehicle as a silver 2024 or 2025 Chevrolet Trax.

“We believe this is a planned attack. The suspect searched the area, got the victim’s name to make the order online, and he knew that the order had to be less than fifty dollars, had to make a delivery and had to be paid by cash,” DPD Detective Michael Bui said, Fox 4 KDFW reported.

Maria Perez, who identified herself as the victim’s sister, said her brother did not order a pizza that day, but opened the door because he thought his girlfriend may have sent it.

“He didn’t think nothing of it. When he saw the delivery man come,” she said, per NBC 5 DFW. “He opened the door to receive a pizza that he did not order. When he opened the door immediately, he was shot.”

Perez said she is amazed that her brother survived the attack.

“We’re thankful and we’re glad that he’s alive, but at the same time we’re scared that person might be coming back,” she added.

The case, documented under number 029209-2026, remains active. Anyone with information should contact Detective M. Bui at 214-672-3538 or [email protected]. Police are asking other neighbors in the area with security cameras to check their footage for images of the suspect’s vehicle and share them with the police department.
